What has been your favourite project at GCX so far?
There have been many over the years. The strategic climate work we did for Sun International was brilliant as it was truly holistic and allowed us to simplify the complex; registration of the Wonderbag project as a VCS registered project was ground-breaking But the development of the online Dashboards and the rollout of this to our existing and new clients has probably been the most exciting project in terms of seeing real value for our clients.
If you could switch your job with anyone else at GCX, whose job would you want and why?
Dustin – technically, he knows a lot about a lot; he is the guy that everyone turns to when they need help and he always refuses to say no.
What, in your opinion, are the three words that best describe GCX?
Creative, professional, trustworthy.
What do you like the most about GCX and what is your favourite part of working there?
I love the culture that allows the team to be approachable and familial, and the start-up like nature of our solutions that brings out the passion in our team.
How did you first learn about GCX and what first drew you to the company?
I was introduced to Kevin through a mutual friend.
What are your hopes for the sustainability industry, and in particular GCX’s clients?
I hope that sustainability is no longer treated as an industry, but rather that it is fully integrated into every aspect of any business. It’s good to see that some of GCX’s clients are seen as leaders in their respective sectors, and it would be great to see that trend continue with all of our clients.
Before working at GCX, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Working on a Kibbutz in Israel – one of the jobs required us to wake up at 2am and get into the aquaculture ponds with a fishing net. After wading through the ponds, the catch would be sorted, de-scaled and then packed into cold packs before 7am.
What is your favourite quote?
“If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.”
What are some of the books you’ve read recently and would recommend to others?
Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou, Quichotte by Salmon Rushdie and Anything by Tom Robbins.
Where is your favourite holiday destination in South Africa?
Hiking in the Transkei.
